Courtney and Rick are one of the sweetest, most easygoing couples I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with! With Rodrigo Moraes as their photographer, the energy of their entire wedding day felt very relaxed and go-with-the-flow, even when it started raining.
For elopements, we often plan for the bride and groom to get ready separately and then either have a first look or see each other for the first time at the ceremony. This usually means the groom leaves the room before hair and makeup gets started. But Rick and Courtney decided to change things up a bit. Rick stayed and hung out as Courtney got beautified. She made sure he looked perfect and put on his boutonniere. Then he left just in time for Courtney to put on her dress, and they did a fun reveal with the full look before leaving the hotel.
As they arrived to Ironwoods Beach, we could see dark storm clouds threatening to roll in. Those clouds held off during the ceremony until right before their kiss. You have to admit there is something super romantic about kissing in the rain though!
It poured as we made our way up to the lava rock cliffs. We waited it out as Courtney and Rick cuddled under the umbrella. After just a few minutes, the rain slowed to sprinkles and then stopped. The effect was dramatic and the colors were a bit moody, but it made the pop of pink from the flowers and silk ribbon stand out even more.
We think it’s totally true what they say! Rain on your wedding day is good luck. We know these two are completely meant to be and hope blessings are heaped on them throughout their lives together!
